Suhail Alam, MD
Retina Specialist, Barnet Dulaney Perkins Eye Center

Dr. Suhail Alam is a board certified ophthalmologist licensed to practice medicine and surgery in the state of Arizona. At age 19, Dr. Alam obtained his bachelor's degree with honors in Toledo, OH. He went on to complete medical school and residency training at the University of Cincinnati, where he consistently scored amongst the top residents in the nation. Following this, he decided to undertake further subspecialty training for vitreoretinal surgery at the University of California - Davis. Dr. Alam went on to take top marks on his board exams, scoring in the 99th percentile.

He specializes in medical and surgical care of the retina and vitreous. His interests include the latest treatments for macular degeneration, diabetes, and retinal detachment repair.

Edward B. Diethrich, M.D.
Founder and Medical Director

Dr. Edward B. Diethrich is regarded as one of the world’s pioneers in heart disease diagnosis and innovative cardiovascular treatments. Under the tutelage of famed heart surgeons Dr. Michael DeBakey and Dr. Denton Cooley, Dr. Diethrich completed his thoracic and cardiovascular training at Baylor College of Medicine where he remained as assistant professor in surgery until 1971 when he founded the Arizona Heart Institute, the nation’s first freestanding outpatient clinic devoted solely to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of heart and blood vessel disease.  

As Medical Director and Chief of Cardiovascular Surgery at the Arizona Heart Institute and the Arizona Heart Hospital, Dr. Diethrich actively performs state-of-the art cardiovascular and endovascular procedures using the latest techniques, many of which he developed and brought to market. He is board certified in general, thoracic and cardiovascular surgery and is a member of all the specialty societies representing the cardiovascular field. Dr. Diethrich has received numerous awards for his accomplishments, authored several books related to cardiovascular disease prevention and treatment, and has published and presented hundreds of scientific papers. He is also an advocate for patient education, appearing weekly on a television news program, answering call-in questions and frequently interacting with the media.


Gabriel Hilkovitz, M.D.
Internal Medicine, Arizona Heart Institute

Dr. Hilkovitz has a special interest in the prevention and treatment of diabetes and is the author of Preventing Type 2 Diabetes: Beyond Diet and Exercise. He actively supports community outreach and patient education and participates in multiple speaking engagements in the Phoenix area.

Dr. Gabriel Hilkovitz earned his medical degree at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa, and completed his medical residency in London. He has practiced Internal Medicine in the United States for over 50 years and is currently practicing at Arizona Heart Institute in Phoenix, AZ.

Kerry Zang, DPM, FACFAS, DABPS
Founder of the Arizona Institute of Footcare Physicians


Dr. Zang has more than 30 years experience developing and providing the latest technologies in podiatric care.  An innovator in his field, he has designed implants and surgical devices, including a joint replacement system for the great toe.  Dr. Zang is a rotating speaker for the Podiatry program at Midwestern University - Phoenix, and is actively involved with teaching podiatric students, and lectures throughout the country to his colleagues.  Dr. Zang is a Diplomate of the American Board of Podiatric Surgery, and a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons.
